  • Having your property licenced as a medical practice

This note is for completeness as most practices should already be complying

Kindly follow the steps in the following link from the City of Cape Town to licence your property

http://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Apply/Planning-building-and-development/Land-use-applications/Apply-for-land-use

Identifying property Zoning is done in 5 easy steps, followed up with 3 steps for submission of your application for the correct zoning.

Step 1: To identify the zoning allocated to your property, look on the existing zoning map at your local district planning office.

Step 2: Now that you know the zoning of your property, turn to the Development Management Scheme in the Municipal Planning By-law. Look up your particular zoning category to see what land uses and what development rules apply to your property.

Step 3: With the allowed land uses and development rules in mind, decide how your plans for the property may be accommodated on the site, and whether you will need to apply to the City for a rezoning or a departure, which is permission to deviate from the existing development rules.

Step 4: Depending on the scale of your development, you may be required to schedule a pre-submission consultation meeting with your local planning office.

Step 5: Once you have determined your property’s zoning, and the land use and development rights permitted in that zoning, you will be able to check whether your planned development or land use activity is allowed without you having to submit an application to the City of Cape Town.

Submitting your application

Step 1: Once you have identified your property zoning and what your land use rights are, you can submit your application. You can either download the Land Use Management Application Form below and submit with your application pack at a district planning office, or you can find fill out the form online through the DAMS system.

Based on the type of application, the district office will indicate what supporting documentation will be required during submission.

Tariffs will be calculated based on the type of application that is being made, as per the City’s Land Use Management tariffs in the document downloads below.

Step 2: Complete your application form and submit it online via DAMS, or hand it in at your local planning district office.

Step 3: All supporting documentation needs to be submitted on a USB stick to your local planning and building office. You cannot submit these online.

  • Office of Health Standards and Compliance

The GP inspection tools are in draft and it is clear that the process is well underway as Western Cape was the last province in this national engagement. As a network, we have provided a written submission on the document, which needs a more pragmatic, simpler, less burdensome and less costly to an already vulnerable private GP. We exepct to communicate further on this tool as on other proactive measures in preparation for all these healthcare reforms.

To note the various EMC² projects via the Learning portfolio like the emergency medicine trolley checks, upskilling and the specialist referral pathway project can only gain traction with active member participation
